How We Bring Your Rug Back to Life?

8 simple steps to make your rug feel new again.
Pre-inspection & fiber check
We begin every rug cleaning with a short walk-through of the piece. The technician checks the fiber type (wool, synthetic, cotton, viscose, etc.), backing, pile height, fringes, and heavy traffic lanes. We also look for color-bleed risks and worn areas. This lets us choose the safest cleaning method and the right solutions for your specific rug.
Eco-shampoo treatment
After inspection, we apply a gentle, eco-friendly shampoo over the rug surface. The formula is safe for kids, pets, and people with sensitivities, and is designed to break down city dust, street dirt, and everyday soil that settles into the fibers. We adjust dilution and agitation for each fiber type, so your rug gets a thorough clean without damage, shrinking, or harsh chemical smell.
All-type stain removal
Then we move to spot work. We treat stains from food, drinks, wine, coffee, mud, pet accidents, and everyday traffic marks. Each area gets a targeted stain removal solution suited to that fiber and dye. We’re honest about results: we can’t guarantee 100% removal, because age of the stain, previous products, and rug material all matter — but in most cases we can remove or noticeably lighten around 90% of visible stains.
Pet hair & odor removal (optional add-on)
For homes with dogs and cats, this add-on goes deeper than a normal clean. We spend extra time pulling out embedded pet hair from the pile and along the edges, then use odor-neutralizing treatments that work below the surface. It’s ideal for rugs in living rooms, entryways, and pet “nap zones,” where regular vacuuming no longer handles the smell.
200°F hot water extraction
This is the core of our rug cleaning process at Charlotte Steamers. Using professional 200°F hot water extraction equipment, we rinse the fibers and lift out compacted soil, fine dust, body oils, and allergens from inside the pile. We focus on the full traffic area, not just visible spots, so the whole rug — not only a few patches — looks brighter and feels cleaner under your feet.
Fiber sanitizing
Along with hot water extraction, we run a special rinse through the system that helps sanitize the rug fibers. The combination of pre-treatment, high-temperature water, and our rinse solution works deep into the pile, helping to reduce bacteria, dust mites, and outside contaminants tracked in on shoes and paws. This step is especially important if kids play on the floor or pets sleep on the rug.
Quick drying (optional add-on)
After cleaning, most rugs dry on their own in about 6–12 hours, depending on thickness and airflow in your home. If you want them back in service sooner, you can choose our quick-dry option. We use powerful cold air movers that are safe for the fibers and backing, helping your rug dry much faster so you’re not avoiding that area of the floor all day.
Essential oil scent treatment
o finish, we can apply a light essential-oil-based scent. Your technician usually has a few options, so you can pick something crisp and fresh or warm and cozy. It’s a subtle layer — not a heavy perfume — that leaves your rug not only looking renewed after stain and odor removal, but also giving off a clean, pleasant smell when you walk into the room.

Deep Cleaning Is a Must

Deep Cleaning Is a Must for Modern Homes

Most people don’t realize that kids’ stains, wear and tear, and strong pet smells can be removed or greatly reduced. With the right process, a “tired” sofa turns into a clean, fresh centerpiece again — the kind of couch you’re proud to sit on yourself and happy to invite guests to.

At the same time, your couch is where you spend hours with your family — and it quietly collects dust, mold spores, bacteria, pet dander, and even parasite eggs if your cats or dogs love that spot. The same happens with rugs and mattresses. That’s why I’m sure of one thing: deep cleaning of furniture, rugs, and mattresses is not a luxury — it’s the basic hygiene of your space.

Charlotte Steamers is my way to bring that standard into modern homes in Charlotte, one couch at a time.

Popular Questions

Here we have collected the most frequently asked questions from our customers.

How much does professional rug cleaning cost?

Our rug and carpet pricing is straightforward with no hidden fees. Area rugs are priced by material: polyester rugs are $1.5 per sq ft, and jute, wool, cotton, and linen rugs are $2 per sq ft. Wall-to-wall carpet is $1.5 per sq ft, and a stair flight is $75. If you’re not sure about the material or size, send a photo and dimensions for a quick, accurate quote.

Can you remove pet urine and odors from rugs?

In many cases, yes — we can significantly reduce or remove pet urine odors, but results depend on how deep it soaked in, how old it is, and what was used on it before. The key is treating it properly and extracting thoroughly. Tell us about the accident history so we can choose the right approach.

What types of rugs do you clean?

We clean most area rugs, including synthetic rugs and many natural-fiber rugs. The method depends on the material and construction, so we always take fabric type into account before we start. If you’re not sure what your rug is made of, send a quick photo and we’ll advise what’s safe.

Will my rug shrink or lose color during cleaning?

We clean with the rug’s material in mind and avoid harsh methods that can cause issues. That said, risk depends on fiber type, dyes, backing, and previous wear or DIY products. We’ll choose the safest process we can and set expectations upfront — especially for delicate or older rugs.

How long does rug cleaning take?

Timing depends on rug size, how soiled it is, and whether there are spots or pet issues to treat. Most area rug cleanings can be completed within a normal appointment window, and we’ll confirm an accurate time estimate when we quote your rug. Photos help us plan it fast.

How long will it take for my rug to dry?

Dry time depends on rug thickness, airflow, and humidity. With normal room airflow, many rugs dry within the same day or by the next morning. If you need it faster, ask about our quick-dry option with air movers, which can reduce dry time significantly in many cases.

Do I need to move furniture off the rug before you come?

If you can clear small items, that’s helpful. For larger furniture, don’t stress — we can work around it or move light pieces as needed during the cleaning. If you want the entire rug fully cleaned wall-to-wall, tell us ahead of time so we can plan for a clear space.

Can you clean my rug on hardwood floors?

Yes. We take precautions to protect hardwood and avoid excess moisture contact. We focus on controlled application and thorough extraction, and we’ll advise on airflow and dry time so everything dries safely. If your floors are sensitive or recently refinished, mention it before we start.

Will professional rug cleaning help with allergies and dust?

Yes — rugs can hold dust, allergens, and pet dander deep in the fibers even when they look clean. Professional cleaning helps remove what regular vacuuming can’t reach. We use premium organic, hypoallergenic products and extract thoroughly, so the rug feels fresher and cleaner for your space.

How often should I have my rugs professionally cleaned?

Most rugs do best with a professional cleaning every 6–12 months. If you have pets, kids, allergies, or heavy foot traffic, plan closer to every 3–6 months. Regular deep cleaning helps remove embedded dust and grit that wears fibers down over time and keeps your rug looking brighter longer.

Is it worth cleaning an old rug or should I just replace it?

Often it’s worth cleaning—especially if the rug is well-made, expensive to replace, or has sentimental value. Deep cleaning can lift dullness, remove odors, and improve the overall look. If the rug is heavily worn, fraying, or has permanent dye damage, we’ll tell you honestly what results to expect.
